New wave of mobility: business strategy meets the evolution of networks

March 14, 2025

At this year's Mobile World Congress (MWC), which was extremely eventful and interesting, Ericsson demonstrated its vision for development and industry transformation, its leadership role in building open and broad ecosystems with numerous customers, partners and industry leaders, including in collaboration with Aduna, a landmark venture between some of the world's leading telecom operators and Australian communications service provider Telstra.

Ericsson’s technological leadership was presented through numerous innovative solutions and products for further development of networks, as well as the evolution of business opportunities through various applications such as 5G Enterprise, solutions for critical infrastructure for national and public security, solutions for railways and the like.

Mobile connectivity is key

Börje Ekholm, President and CEO of Ericsson, emphasized at the opening of the Mobile World Congress on 3 March in Barcelona that mobile connectivity will play a central role in realizing the possibilities of artificial intelligence and cloud technologies to accelerate the new era of digitalization. Ekholm said that the digital stack, a combination of all the necessary technologies, including mobile connectivity, requires excellence in all its components to achieve its potential. That is why future mobile networks must be highly efficient, programmable and accessible to developers for innovation. It is impossible to scale Cloud and AI without connectivity. Mobile connectivity goes beyond the traditional consumer market and becomes the central driver of digitalization.

Attractive use cases

This year, in addition to a special area for our customers and partners, quality panels and presentations were organized, in which partners and industry representatives participated in addition to Ericsson representatives. The topics were further development of the industry, as well as use cases for wider application. Among the inspiring application examples, we highlight Ericsson’s 5G Enterprise solution in a hospital in Singapore, the superior features of the Ericsson Radio Dot system in offices, and Ericsson’s 5G solution in the Jaguar Land Rover factory. In the open space available to all MWC participants, Ericsson demonstrated its leadership role. The Digital Tram was also interesting for the participants because they could watch various cultural and sports events using AR glasses.

Ericsson has placed special emphasis on developing artificial intelligence-powered networks for new business opportunities and fostering the next wave of mobile technology. In collaboration with partners, Ericsson is working hard to open up networks, making advanced network capabilities easily accessible through a global platform for integrated network APIs.

On the eve of MWC, Ericsson presented a series of technological innovations and solutions for operators and business systems.

News in the radio part

A new wave of radio devices, antennas and RAN Connect products have been introduced to advance high-performing programmable networks. Ericsson is expanding its existing portfolio with seven new energy-efficient and high-performing Massive MIMO and Remote radios, 5G indoor solutions and new open fronthaul products called RAN Connect. Innovations in this offering segment will reduce energy consumption by up to 30 percent, operating costs and carbon footprint by up to 50 percent, supporting more efficient network deployment. During 2025, Ericsson plans to offer 130 radio products that support open and programmable networks, ensuring flexibility, scalability and evolution of future-ready networks.

Future of connected enterprises

Under the theme ‘Step into what’s next’, Ericsson presented enterprise wireless solutions that enable smarter and more agile businesses. Visitors were shown interactive case studies related to the transformative power of private 5G, IoT, edge computing, and AI-driven applications in various industries.

High-performing programmable networks

Communications service providers are constantly striving to offer the best performance and reliability at the lowest possible total cost of ownership, while improving their sustainability. Based on customer needs, Ericsson has introduced an expansion of network capabilities, empowering high-performing programmable networks that open up a range of new possibilities.
