ICT solutions for greater traffic safety
February 26, 2025
At this year’s conference Traffic Safety in Urban Areas – Challenges and Solutions by Jutarnji list, Krešimir Vidović, PhD, ENT expert for advanced traffic solutions, spoke about how intelligent transport systems contribute to the optimization of traffic in urban areas.
The conference was held on 25 February in Zagreb and brought together key stakeholders in transport, urban development, technology and legislation to discuss solutions for increasing traffic safety in urban areas.
The opening remarks at the conference were given by Goran Ogurlić, editor-in-chief of Jutarnji list on behalf of the organizer, and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Davor Božinović on behalf of the Ministry as one of the partners of the National Road Safety Plan. A panel discussion titled Traffic in Cities – Challenges and Solutions was also held as part of the conference.
Krešimir Vidović, PhD, ENT expert in intelligent transport systems, explained how ICT tools and solutions for optimizing public transport enable optimization by upgrading the existing system, without physically expanding the infrastructure, and how the introduction of such solutions based on Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) in cities can significantly impact the improvement of the quality of life.
“The development of digital infrastructure in cities will enable further improvement of transport systems and the implementation of new services based on advanced ICT solutions and the capabilities of modern technologies, such as the application of artificial intelligence and digital twins. Ericsson Nikola Tesla and its partners are already implementing such advanced systems based on the capabilities of state-of-the-art technologies, aligned with EU guidelines that influence the promotion and encouragement of sustainable, clean and energy-efficient transport solutions in several cities and regions in the Republic of Croatia. A project is currently being implemented in which such a system, based on real data and with built-in expert domain knowledge, will help make reasoned decisions for planning investments in the transport infrastructure of the City of Zagreb,” said Krešimir Vidović, PhD.
