ENT Servisi at FiberWeek 2026: Data Centers as Part of the Energy System of the Future

May 11, 2026

At the FiberWeek 2026 conference, held from 5 to 7 May in Postira on the island of Brač, one of the key topics was the panel discussion The Energy Equation of Data Centers, dedicated to the role of digital infrastructure in the energy transition and sustainable development.

The panel featured Marijana Markota, Project Delivery Manager at Ericsson Nikola Tesla Servisi (ENT Servisi), who emphasized the need to rethink how data centers are perceived today: not merely as isolated energy consumers, but as active participants in the broader energy and societal ecosystem.

The discussion placed particular focus on the concept of strategic micro‑location planning and energy symbiosis, meaning the integration of data centers with existing energy infrastructure and local communities. A highlighted example of good practice was the potential integration of waste heat from data centers into the HEP Toplinarstvo heating system in Zagreb, where heat generated from cooling server infrastructure could become a valuable resource for the city’s heating network.

Speaking about the future of IT infrastructure development, Markota stressed that sustainability must be interconnected with other economic sectors. Among the potential solutions, the panel underscored the idea of linking data centers with agrivoltaic systems in parts of Croatia outside major urban areas. Such a model would enable simultaneous food and energy production while supplying data centers locally with renewable energy and reducing the load on the national power grid.

The panel also emphasized that Croatia, thanks to its geographic position, existing infrastructure and technical expertise, has the opportunity to become a regional and European hub for sustainable data centers.

ENT Servisi’s participation at FiberWeek 2026 once again demonstrated the company’s expertise in digital infrastructure and sustainable technological solutions, as well as its active role in promoting innovative approaches that connect ICT, energy and sustainable development.
