Contributing to strengthening digital connectivity in rural areas of Croatia
October 21, 2026
At a closing conference held on 19 October in Zagreb, Odašiljači i veze (OIV) presented the results of the project Construction of Passive Electronic Communications Infrastructure, aimed at creating the prerequisites for improved digital connectivity in rural and less densely populated areas of Croatia.
The design and turnkey construction works were successfully delivered by a consortium comprising Ericsson Nikola Tesla d.d. and Ericsson Nikola Tesla Servisi d.o.o.
As part of the project, 14 free-standing antenna masts were constructed across 12 Croatian counties. The newly built infrastructure enables operators to install their own active equipment and provide advanced communication services, thereby creating the conditions needed to reduce the digital divide between urban and rural areas.
The project further supports Croatia’s digital transformation objectives and lays the foundations for more balanced economic and social development. Access to modern communication services is a key prerequisite for improving citizens’ quality of life, fostering entrepreneurship and ensuring the availability of digital public services, regardless of where people live.
The total value of the project exceeded EUR 7.9 million, with more than EUR 6.3 million secured through non-refundable European Union funding under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP).
